About us
Our Story
Humanity Uplifting People is a charity that, although registered in 2018, has a long story working on the streets of Glasgow for the past 6 years. The organization’s main activity has been giving homeless people warm drinks along with a conversation and a chance to be listened to and helped.
Getting to closely know the life story of a single homeless person many years ago, it opened the eyes of our founder Ife and motivated her to take further action. After this encounter, she got to know more stories of rough sleepers and later with the help of other likeminded people, started offering coffee and tea regularly around the city centre.
In December 2018, our founder and friends started talking about founding a charity to give them tangible and practical solutions to homelessness and thus, is how it all started. Although the focus has been on the street team, there are future programs and activities coming for 2021 and we will keep you informed through our blog and newsletter.

With compassion and humanity, provide practical support that helps people help themselves out of poverty. Central to our humanity is our passion for people. We are dedicated to lending a helping hand to those in dire need of support. I am because we are.

Meet our team
Ifeoluwa Garba
Ife is the founder and CEO of HUP. Although an Engineer, she has always been more passionate about helping people. Ife's journey to make a difference in peoples' lives started at a young age. In 2007, Ife worked as a project lead for a human development foundation in Nigeria, where she campaigned on poverty, woman and child homelessness, and education. Returning back to her home in Germany in 2009, she continued working with people who had been displaced from their homes. In 2011, Ife relocated to Glasgow where she put together a small group who went around the city offering food, drinks and warm clothing to roughsleepers. However, in 2018, seeing that the situation was not changing, Ife founded HUP - with a vision of providing lasting solutions which would help people help themselves out of poverty.
Laura Carvalho
After studying Business at the University of Glasgow, Laura moved to Florida to do a postgraduate, while working in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. She then moved to Brazil, teaching & translating until she got into marketing, which she is passionate about. She loves using marketing, social media & strategy to create positive change in the world. She is a Buddhist, who lives with her husband & 3 cats
Alejandra Grandon
Alejandra is a designer who comes from a fine arts background. During her journey of becoming a designer, she became a practitioner of human-centred design and has learned how to use diverse research tools and methods to understand people's needs and behaviours, studying how digital technologies can have a place in people's lives, and use this knowledge to design sensibly and effectively. Besides, she likes to utilise design in making and active effort to have a positive effect on the world around us and thus participating in projects that are aimed to have a social impact.
